Montreux is a resort town located in the north eastern side of Lake Geneva. While the rest of our Switzerland trip was spent in the German-speaking side of Switzerland, the locals in Montreux speaks French.
The Golden Pass
We got to Montreux from Interlaken by taking the Golden Pass, a special scenic train ride with panoramic coaches.
I read somewhere that you can tell when you have reached the french side of Switzerland by observing the way the households arrange their fire wood. The german-speaking households arrange then in a systematic fashion, whereas the french-speaking households arrange them in a more artistic fashion.
Chillon Castle
The highlight of the visit to Montreux was a visit to the Chillon Castle.
After the castle visit, we had freshly-made crepe with banana and chocolate – a must when visiting Montreux.
Boat ride to Lausanne
The Swiss pass is not only limited to train rides. It also includes boat rides. Since we have only been taking trains all this while, we decided to take a boat ride to Lausanne. From Lausanne, we took a train back to Interlaken.
This was the view of Montreux from the boat.
NEXT DAY: Murren and Lauterbrunnen
Our trip to Zermatt was part of our 10-day Switzerland and Paris which includes the medieval city of Bern, a scenic train ride to Zermatt, Matterhorn, Junfraujoch and Murren and Lauterbrunnen. For tips on planning this trip, click here Planning a family vacation to Switzerland and Paris.
