After visiting Larnach Castle and Gardens, we continued our drive along the Otago Peninsula in the hope to see some wildlife like penguins and the Royal albatross.

Royal Albatross, Otago Peninsula

The Otago Peninsula is supposed to be the wildlife capital of New Zealand.  We couldn’t find the penguins but we did find the colony of the Northern Royal Albatross. The Royal Albatross is a large endangered seabird from the albatross family.  We witnessed the flock of Royal Albatross flying together at the Peninsula.

The Taiaroa Head, pictured below, is the world’s only mainland breeding colony of the Northern Royal Albatross.  The colony has been at the Taiaroa Head for more than 70 years!

As we headed back to our Farm stay, we drove past some scenic spots along the way.

Otago Peninsula

This was the amazing thing about a New Zealand road trip…. breathtaking sceneries without even having to get out of the car!

Even with a 7-month old baby, asleep or awake, it was easy to see the beautiful sights.
