Where can you watch a live Barney show, dance with Angelina Ballerina, ride on Thomas the Train and visit Pingu‘s igloo, all under one roof?  The answer is The Little Big Club Indoor Theme Park. The Little Big Club is located on the second and third floors of Puteri Harbour Indoor Theme Park in Johor Bahru Malaysia. While the third floor is dedicated to Thomas the Train, the second floor is where you can find Barney, Angelina Ballerina, Pingu and Bob the Builder.  The first floor is for Hello Kitty, which requires a separate ticket, or a combo ticket.

Angelina Ballerina Dance Class

My 4-year-old girl is a fan of Angelina Ballerina.  In fact, this cartoon character is probably the reason why she got interested in ballet and dancing, so when I told her she could attend a ballet dance class with Angelina Ballerina, she was thrilled to bits.  It came as no surprise that this was the first thing we did when we arrived.

Before the dance class, the little girls got to put on a pink tutu and ears like Angelina Ballerina.  Luckily we arrived early as they ran out of pink tutus for all the little girls.  When Angelina appeared, you can imagine the high pitch cheers from these little girls as they jumped up and down in excitement.  Angelina taught them some dance moves and got every girl to dance like a ballerina.  My daughter enjoyed the class so much that she wanted to do it again.  She was very happy to have her photo taken with her favourite ballerina cartoon character.

Bob the Builder

Our next stop was Bob the Builder which had a ‘Build it Zone’ where kids can help Bob build a house. Bob the Builder

PinguPingu

Pingu the Penguin came out and posed for us right outside his igloo. I don’t think many kids knew who Pingu was so there was not much crowd in his igloo.

Barney the Dinosaur

At Barney’s corner, there was a little house with an outdoor area, which was somewhat similar to the setup on Barney’s TV shows.

Thomas (the Train) and Friends

After a quick stop at Barney’s,  we headed to the third floor to visit Thomas and Friends. The most popular ride was on Thomas the train.  The queue was extremely long for this train ride. We should have queued up here first when the theme park opened.

Thomas the Train

Apart from the train ride, my kids took the Windmill ride, and spun around on Harold’s Helitours ride.

The Bumping Buffer Steamies and Diesel ride (below left) had a minimum height requirement which my 4-year-old did not meet. I thought this was a bit strange given that the park’s target customers were toddlers and pre-schoolers.  There was Colin Crane Drop ride (below right) which I thought had a drop that was a bit too fast for kids.

Bertie the Bus took the kids (and adults) circling up and down. My girls liked this ride.

Live Performance by Barney and Friends

At about noon, there was a live show by Barney and friends, so we headed back down to the second floor. Barney and friends sang Barney’s favourite songs in front of happy little kids.

Barney Live Show

After the Barney show, we quickly rushed down to the first floor to the Hello Kitty Town to watch the Hello Kitty show.

All in all, my 4-year-old had the most fun and wanted to visit the park again.

Tips

  • It is best to bring the kids when they are about 3-5 years old and are fans of these characters.
  • The good thing about this place is that it is indoor and air-conditioned, so whether it is hot or wet outside, it does not matter.  The aircon can be a bit cold though, so you may want to consider bringing a light jacket for the little one.
  • If it is not too crowded, it takes less than half a day to complete all the rides at the theme park.
  • There is not a great variety of food there, except for a small cafe inside the theme park and a themed restaurant called Lat’s Place from the Malaysian comic Lat.
  • If you are driving, try to get there early.  For us, we arrived about 10 minutes after it opened and we had a hard time finding a car park lot.
  • If you bought tickets to both Hello Kitty Town and The Little Big Club, head to this theme park first, then go to Hello Kitty Town.  Most people started with Hello Kitty Town on Level 1 and worked their way up to Levels 2 and 3 later.  Queue up for Thomas the Train first as this had the longest queue.
  • Buy tickets online at www.playtime.com.my to save time queueing.
