KidsSTOP Singapore is the latest attraction specially for children between the ages of 2 to 8 years old. Located at the Singapore Science Centre in Jurong, KidsSTOP is about inspiring children to imagine, experience, discover and dream.
Imagine @ KidsSTOP
The girls’ first stop is the Built zone where kids get to experience working in a building and construction site. Donning hard hats and safety vests, kids get to play with a workbench, excavators, and push a wheelbarrow loaded with bags of cement.
Kids can also learn how to arrange a system of gears to make a set of colourful blocks light up, and arrange tubes to make a path for balls. My daughter’s favourite was manoeuvering a giant claw machine to pick up a bunch of balls and drop as many of them into a dish.
There was also an area where kids can explore their creativity and build structures or buildings using the pieces available.
Aspiring palaeontologists get a chance to imagine what it is like working at an excavating site, digging for dinosaur bones at the Dino Pit.
Tired of digging for bones? Let’s go grocery shopping at the Supermarket! I suppose the kids were supposed to learn the names of items available at the Supermarket, but they were too excited picking up groceries at this make-believe Supermarket that they didn’t bother with the names.
I don’t blame them either. I, too, had fun helping them with their grocery shopping!
Don’t forget to check out at the cashier before leaving the Supermarket.
Done with the groceries? It is time to get cooking! In this well-equipped kitchen, the little ones get to imagine playing chef, baking pizzas and cooking whatever they can fit into the pots and pans.
Discover @ KidsSTOP
At the Discover zone, kids get to discover what it is like being a pilot. They also discover that cycling can spin fans, and how an object’s shape affects its ability to fly.
There is also an enclosed room where kids can discover the Solar System that glows in the dark.
The Discover zone also has a section where kids can learn more about the various parts of the Human Body. They can learn about the human skeleton and the internal organs.
Always on the receiving end of the injection? At KidsSTOP, kids can play doctor and administer injections to their “patients”.
Dream @ KidsSTOP
Dreaming of flying off to space in a rocket? Try climbing up the KidsSTOP rocket.
Kids who love a bit of an adrenaline rush can try the Giant J which lets you slide down from as high as 7 metres.
The highlight of the Dream zone is a two-storey climbing structure which leads to a secret music room. The staff said that the structure is strong enough to take the weight of adults.
Experience @ KidsSTOP
The fourth and final zone is the Experience zone with a kiddie theatre, a tinkering room and a Math room.
The kiddie theatre is where kids experience being recorded for a TV broadcast.
They also learn how they can be superimposed onto other videos using blue-screen technology.
I enjoyed creating a stop-motion animation with my daughter using lego pieces. There was supposed to be a facility to email the video to yourself, but it wasn’t working at that time.
The main attraction at the Tinkering area is this tricycle with square wheels. Do you think that it could turn?
The Experience zone is also a place where the little ones get to interact with plants and animals.
Oh look! We get to touch a baby chick.
There were also frogs, crickets, critters and hermit crabs.
Before we can exit, we have to pass through this gift shop. There was a colourful ferris wheel at the gift shop but, too bad, it was not operational.
Useful Tips
- There are two sessions per day for the general public. On weekdays, the first session is from 12 to 3pm and the second session is from 4 to 7pm. On weekends,, the first session is from 10am to 2pm and the second session is from 3 to 7pm. Do come on time at the start of the session. Also, eat before going there to maximise the time allocated.
- Although the ages specified are from 2 to 8, I think that 9 and 10 year olds will enjoy KidsSTOP as well.
- When you queue up for your tickets, you might get overwhelmed by the number of combo tickets available. There are combo tickets for KidsSTOP and Science Centre, Omni Theatre and/or Snow City.
