Gardens by the Bay is having an Orchid Extravaganza from 16 August to 21 September 2014.
Gardens by the Bay – Flower Dome
There were two areas in the Flower Dome with the orchid display. The first was near the entrance where three tepees were adorned with colourful orchids.
The second area was the flower field at the centre of the cooled conservatory. Even though it didn’t cover a large area, there were over 18,000 orchid plants on display.
As we stepped into the flower field, the scent of flowers filled the air. I didn’t know that orchids had a strong scent.
The orchid display were designed by award-winning landscape architect, Jun-ichi Inada.
Here are some close-ups of the orchids on display.
While some of the orchids were more commonly found in Singapore, others were more rare. Some do not even look like orchids to me.
The tiger orchid above (bottom left) only blooms once every few years.
The main attraction
The highlight of the Orchid Extravaganza is the Orchid Tower made of bamboo. On the outside, purple orchids adorned the tower.
On the inside, you will see a kaleidoscope of orchids stretching all the way to the top of the tower, mesmerising every visitor that stepped in.
Here’s another look at the stunning display of orchids.
