Singapore celebrated its 50th National Day on 9th August 2015 and despite not having tickets to the parade and celebrations, we were able to enjoy the largest display of fireworks at NDP 2015 from Gardens by the Bay East.

While most people headed to the main Marina Bay area around The Float and the Marina Bay Sands to watch the fireworks, we decided to take a stroll from Gardens by the Bay South, passing by Satay by the Bay and crossing the Marina Barrage to Gardens by the Bay East.   There were other picnickers and avid photographers there doning red and white, but it was much less crowded than the main bay area.

Aerial Display

Prior to the fireworks treat, aerial displays from the Singapore Air Force dazzled the spectators.  This included RSAF’s Black Knights’ “Five Star” tribute aerial flypast and criss-cross manoeuvre, the “50” formation by F16s, and tanker aircraft.

The Black Knights also did a fan-out manoeuvre as a salute to the nation.

Singapore Airline’s A380 made its maiden appearance at Singapore’s National Day with a special Singapore flag livery.

Display of Fireworks at NDP 2015

As the sky darkened, everyone waited patiently for the fireworks to begin.  With the cloudy skies, many were ready to pack up in case of a heavy downpour.   Fortunately for all of us, the weather remained cool and breezy and without a drop of rain.

The display of fireworks at NDP 2015 was the largest we’ve ever seen.   The above picture was the first one I took, just to show how I underestimated the size of the fireworks display.

It was a good thing that we were at Gardens by the Bay East because we can get a full view of the fireworks.   Here is a selection of photos I took from Gardens by the Bay East.

I didn’t deliberately make the picture red and white in the picture below, but without changing any camera settings, the sky looked dramatically red.

We loved the sizzling fireworks fan in the picture below.

We’ve never seen so many types of fireworks before.  Some even looked like durians and rambutan.

One of my favourite fireworks display is this one below which looked like pretty pink flowers.

It was indeed a spectacular show and we were glad we got to enjoy the largest and best fireworks display in Singapore live from Gardens by the Bay East.
