Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort is a beachfront resort located on Pantai Bagan Lalang which is about an hour’s drive from Kuala Lumpur and a 3-hour drive north of Singapore. It features over-water villas that, together, form the shape of a palm tree. See the above picture courtesy of Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort.
This was the exterior of our villa.
Our two-bedroom villa was very spacious for the five of us, with a gorgeous master bedroom, a second bedroom with twin beds, and a living area.
There was an extra room to chill out and enjoy the seaview. The master bathroom with the sunken bath tub (pictured on the right) was so huge and probably as big as the master bedroom itself.
The extra hour waiting at check-in to get a unit on the outermost trunk with an unblocked view of the sea was well worth it. We had a terrific view of the sunset from the balcony of our room.
The resort provided buggies to shuttle hotel guests from the hotel lobby to the centre of the “palm” where the club house and swimming pool were. Bicycles were available all around the resort for hotel guests. We could just grab any bicycle we see and cycle as much as we wanted.
Fun Activities for the Family
We tried kayaking and stand-up paddle at Smily Beach right next to the resort. It was free for guests’ use. The calm and shallow water made it quite safe for kids. We did not get a chance to try sailing, cart sailing, or speed sailing as there was hardly any wind at that time.
Like most beaches in Singapore and along the Malacca Straits, the water was not bluish but it was clean and warm with soft sand. The water was at waist level as far as 50 m away from the beach. In the early afternoon, when the water started subsiding, we found many tiny crabs in the sand.
There was also a swimming pool on the beach for hotel guests. As it was above ground, we had to climb up a ladder to get into the pool.
We could have lazed around on the hammocks or deck chairs but the kids were too eager to head to the resort’s infinity pool.
Every time we passed by the infinity pool, we found it to be extremely crowded, even early in the morning. Fortunately for us, we discovered the perfect time to swim when it was least crowded i.e. between the check-out time (noon) and check-in time (3pm).
Seafood – So fresh and so delicious!
Although the resort offered several dining options, we decided to have dinner at a seafood restaurant (called HM Sri Bagan) overlooking the beach which was about a 5-minute drive from the hotel.
We picked out our own fresh fish, crabs, prawns and other seafood, and chose the cooking style and flavour. As the restaurant was popular with many customers pre-ordering their food over the phone, we had to wait almost an hour for dinner to be served!
While waiting for our food, I managed to get some pictures of the lovely sunset.
When the food finally arrived, it did not disappoint. The crab cooked in black pepper and the grilled sambal (chilli) fish were great, but the lala cooked in a soupy gravy with a hint of lemongrass was superb! This dish was recommended by the chef. The food was so good that we ate there again the next day!
Entertainment
After dinner, we managed to catch part of a Hawaiian fire show back at the hotel. The resort had lined up different types of entertainment every evening.
So, what did we think of our stay?
All in all, we had a fun and relaxing time at Avani Sepang Goldcoast Resort, and I would recommend it for families who enjoy trying out activities offered by the hotel. Apart from the two-bedroom villa, which was meant for 4-5 guests, the resort also have family rooms for 4 guests and a three-bedroom villa.
Tips
- The hotel provides free shuttle service to KLCC at 8.30am and 2pm daily; and from KLCC at 5pm.
- The seafood restaurant (HM Sri Bagan) opens daily from 6pm to 1am. Tel 03 31412895. If you are driving, come early to avoid a long wait at the carpark.
- Head to the beach in the morning when the tide is high.

Hi, do you know if the 3 bedroom villas has a small pantry area in the room?
Hi Jo, I stayed in a 2 bedroom villa and there was no pantry. If I recall, there was a mini fridge.
Hi! May I know which time of the year did you visit this resort? If i won’t use their shuttle, do you know what is the mode of transportation from Kuala Lumpur international airport and around how much?
Thanks.
Hi Paola, we visited Avani Sepang resort in December last year. You could take a taxi from the KLIA airport which is about 40 minutes. We did not take a taxi from the airport, so we are not sure of the price. You could also check with the hotel whether they can arrange a pickup. Have a great time at the resort!
Thanks for your blog! It gives me a better idea! 🙂
Btw, just want to ask, if just for a one day trip and not booking a room at Avani resort, would I miss out a lot of activities?
What is the difference between a day trip and overnight vacation over there?
If you are making a day trip there, then you can go to the beach and go for seafood dinner in the evening. The water sports, cycling, infinity swimming, and other activities are only available to hotel guests. It is definitely better to stay a night.
Hye..good blog for others view for Avani resort..It is most beautiful place for a vacation..It was the place for me n family to release tension n rilexs on weekend..
