When you think about Bali, you think about the beaches, the resorts and the culture. A visit to Bali Safari and Marine Park might not be at the top of ones list when planning a trip to Bali, but surprisingly, it was my kids favourite.
At USD49 (yes, they charge in USD), the ticket price might seem pricey at first, but the combination of a zoo, a safari ride, an aquarium, an amusement park and an hour-long top-notch theatrical show made the ticket price well worth it.
The Elephant Show
We missed the animal show earlier in the morning, but managed to catch the Elephant Show at 11am. The Elephant show was more than just a show about what elephants were capable of doing.
It cleverly integrated a story with a message about conservation and saving the elephants. My kids laughed out loud when one of the elephants pooped big time in the water.
The Safari Ride
After the Elephant show, we joined the long queue to go on the Safari ride. The Safari ride brought us close to the animals.
We rode in an enclosed mini bus which even traversed through shallow water areas.
Here were some of the animals we saw.
The Zoo
Rather than just a zoo like any other zoos in the world, the Bali Safari incorporated balinese designs and culture all around the park. There was even a balinese dance lesson for guests.
Look at that cheeky smile on the camel. I wonder why the camel looked so happy.
My kids and I got to feed an elephant for the first time.
Bali Agung Show
The most memorable event was the Bali Agung Theatrical show. It was an hour-long show which started at around 2.30pm. It was an excellent theatrical performance which told a story about Bali’s prince and his marriage to a Chinese princess. The combination of dances, music, beautiful costumes and stage set made even my 5-year-old fully engaged and glued to her seat. Even animals like elephants and camels were part of the show. I personally think that this was the best performance amongst the four that we saw, and it was worth the hour-long drive from our hotel.
The only bad thing was that we were not allowed to take photos or videos. In fact, we even had to check in any photo-taking devices, including mobile phones with camera! I assume the reason was because the animals might be distracted or upset by all the camera flashes. Visit their site at balisafarimarinepark.com.
I must admit that I was not really keen at first to go to the Bali Safari. My thought was if my kids wanted to see animals, I can bring them to the zoo in Singapore. It was a good thing that we went in the end. Despite the fact that we did not have time to visit the amusement park and the aquarium, I must say that Bali Safari and Marine Life Park was worth the visit.
